User Research:

Talked with the locals to understand their culture and lifestyle. Everything, from cutlery to houses, was handmade by the villagers.
I learned that the children do not have any types of furniture at home and school due to insufficient space and they like spacious rooms. Hence, they do their homework on the floor.

Problem Statement:

Kids needs a way to feel secure and independent so that they do not feel insecure and powerless.

How might we

create objects that empowers children to be independent.

Materials:
These are the materials that my group intend to use in our products so that it will look like a family when all our products are placed together.

The legs and the side handle are one piece of rod that is bent which acts as a stopper when it opens up to.

The slight chamfer is to ensure that when the legs open, the stopper rod has a bigger area to rest on which makes it have a lower chance of damaging the wood.

Handle to make it easier for children to carry it around.
The handle can be flattened when not in used.

Indentation at the bottom part of the table is to ensure that the legs fit in nicely when closed.

The slight chamfer and round are to ensure that the corner of the wood would not be damaged by the legs when opening or closing.

The whole piece of the aluminium rod is put through the hole in between the thickness of the wood.

1:5 prototype as the aesthetic model.

1:1 cardboard prototype to test the size of the table compared to a 5 - 6 years old kid.

Storyboard to explain how the table's function works.

The client thinks that it is more suitable if the table can be kept at a corner of the classroom than bringing it home.

However, I felt that it still better for them to bring home because they can put their belongings and bring home as a bag so that once they reach home, they can use it to do their homework. This was one of the reasons for making a portable table for the children.
